Songs from the Vault Saturday #1

In honor of Spring and nicer weather, why not have some fun?
Why not share some of the fun stuff in my iPod with everyone.
Why not make it even more fun and add videos?
I'm calling it
Songs from the Vault Saturday!
As my husband would say, Be Afraid.

A disclaimer:
I have an eclectic taste in music.
I mean Opera to Rap and everything in between.
So come get to know me through song. :)
Feel free to sing out with me, in the car, in the shower or on your headphones.
Yes, I know I'm weird.

This week I thought I'd share a song from latin singer,
Selena.
Remember the movie with JLo?
Today is the 17th anniversay of Selena's death.
So, so sad.
I decided to share one of her fun hits that reminds me of summer and fun.

Bidi Bidi Bom Bom

The song is in Spanish, so for all you non-Spanish speakers here is a rundown of the song.

Bidi Bidi Bom Bom is the sound her heart makes every time she sees the guy that she is crushing.
Ah, young love.

Here are the lyrics in English:

Each time
Each time that I see him go by
My heart goes crazy
And begins to pound and beat
And it becomes excited(it becomes excited)
It no longer reasons
I can't control it
And it becomes excited (it becomes excited)
It no longer reasons

and it begins to sing to me
It sings to me like this, like this
(Chorus)
Bidi Bidi Bom Bom(Bidi Bidi Bom Bom)
Bidi Bidi Bom Bom(Bidi Bidi Bom Bom)
Bidi Bidi Bidi Bidi Bidi Bom Bom
Bidi Bidi Bidi Bidi Bidi Bom Bom
Each time
Each time that I hear him speak
Even my legs tremble
And so does my heart(and my heart does the same)
And it becomes excited(it becomes excited)
It no longer reasons
I can't control it
And it becomes excited(it becomes excited)
It no longer reasons And it begins to sing to me
It sings to me like this, like this
(Chorus)
When I hear this song
My heart wants to sing like this
(Chorus)

I'm Versatile!

I was so excited when Kelly
at

Here Comes the Sun

awarded me with the
Versatile Blogger award!

I love awards! I mean who doesn't, right?

The Versatile Blogger award is awarded by your fellow bloggers and is a way
to recognize newer blogs that you really like.
And it's a great way to share those blogs with your own followers!

Thanks, so much Kelly!!!!

I have to share 7 things about myself
and then
I get to award the Versatile Blogger award to 7 of my fav and growing blogs!

So 7 fun things about me:

1.   While I absolutely love tattoo artwork, I could never actually get a tattoo.  I worry that I would get bored of it, and then I'd be stuck with the tattoo forever.  Plus, I don't like needles.

2.  I am slightly obsessed supernatural t.v. shows.  I've seen every episode of "Buffy", "Angel", "Supernatural", "Walking Dead", "Falling Skies", "Teen Wolf", "Vampire Diaries" and I could go on and on and on.  If it's creepy, I love it.  Buffy is my all time favorite.

3.  I will try any type of food once.  How do you know if you won't like it if you don't try it?

4.  I love to sing. Always have.  In first grade I sang "Let's Get Physical" in my grade school talent show.  I came in second place.  And yes, I had a side pony tail, a red satin track suit and headband. :)

5.  I know the words to most 80's and 90's pop songs.  I have been know to initiate 80's dance parties with my friends in public places.  (You know who you are!)

6.  English is my second language.   My family taught me Spanish before English.  Speaking to me, you would never know it, though.

7. In grade school I got to dance on a local tv show called "Dancing on Air". While there I got to meet one of the show's "regular" dancers, Kelly Rippa.  I was 12 and she was about 16.  I still remember it and she was so sweet.

I am awarding the Versatile Blogger award to these great ladies:

Carla at All That Mathers
Jill at Jillify It
Marissa at Rae Gun Ramblings
Cathy at My 1929 Charmer

Decorative Easter Eggs

I admit it, I'm still getting my Easter decorations ready.

Yup, I procrastinate.

I've been toying with an idea of intricately decorated Easter Eggs.
Mehndi and Henna designs have been floating in my head.
You know, lots of internet inspiration searches, etc.

I finally found a few designs I really liked.
Aren't they amazing?

Boy, I wish I could make such pretty patterns.
Sigh.
Instead I decided to use my favorite small elements for my eggs.

Things you will need:

Puffy Paint (any color you like)
Jumbo Plastic Eggs

Lay out a paper towel and have your reference designs ready.
You can't see it, but my laptop is to the left and has the designs on the screen.
Shake up your Puffy Paint
Hold the egg at the top and bottom using your index finger and thumb.
Then the scary part, starting your pattern.

Once you start, you will find it goes pretty smoothly.
Below is the first pattern.

Once you have a pattern you like, rotate the egg and repeat.
I found I can get 3 designs around the egg.
Be careful not to smudge when rotating.
Luckily, since the eggs are plastic, you can easily wipe off a smudge and start over.

Tada!
I added a design on the bottom as well.
I found resting the eggs in a candle stick is a great way to let them dry.

I made 3 eggs and varied my designs on each.
This one is Michael's favorite.

Here are all the eggs set for drying.

Details of each one:

I just love them.
Not a bad start to Easter decorating.
Also, a happy accident is that the eggs match the paper bunnies
I made HERE.

Reusable Swiffer Pad Tutorial

As I had mentioned before, I love my Swiffer Wet Jet, but really suck
at keeping the soap and pad refills on hand.

So, after my success refilling my Lysol Soap Dispenser and Swiffer Bottle
from THIS post, I knew I needed Swiffer Pads.

After looking around online for a bit, I came up with the style above.
It is super simple, 4 pieces, and cost $1 for 2 pads.

Yeah, I did use the sewing machine, but it doesn't have to be perfect.
AND
If you can sew a basic line, believe me, you can do it too!

The Details
First, I picked up an auto Shammy (or Chamois) cloth from the dollar store.
Cut the cloth base to the same size as your Swiffer Wet Jet.
Next, cut 3 strips, 2 inches wide and the length of the base pad.

Take the 3 strips and position them on the base.
One in the middle and one on either side.
Then sew them to the base by sewing right down the middle of each strip.

Now take your scissors and make a snip every inch down both sides of each strip.
Feel free to fluff them up.  :)

The shammy material adheres to the velcro on the bottom of the Swiffer Wet Jet.
You don't need to sew pocket or anything!
Isn't that great!

I told you it was simple!
You can now Swiffer and then toss these guys right into the washing machine.
Make a bunch and you will always have a fresh pad ready.

I was again inspired to mop every hard surface in the house tonight.
I must really like this project.
I had no issues with the cloth moving or slipping.

Hope you like it too!

Chocolate Drizzled Heath Bar Cookies

Can you tell I have a sweet tooth?
Can you say
YUM!

I first tried Heath Bar Cookies from a local Cookie Bakery.

They were AMAZING!
Chocolate, Toffee, Delightfulness!

I found a recipe and have been making small tweaks here and there.
Try making these, you will not be sorry.

Heath Bar Cookies

Yields: 3 Dozen Cookies

Ingredients:
  • 2½ cups all purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 package of Heath Milk Chocolate Toffee Bits

Baking Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • Sift together flour, salt, and baking soda.
  • Cream softened butter, sugar and brown sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
  • Add in flour mixture until well combined.
  • Lastly, Stir or Fold in Heath bars bits.
  • Chill cookie dough for at least 30 minutes, up to overnight.  The longer you chill the better the results.
  • Drop heaping spoonfuls of cookie dough onto  an ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake 10-12 minutes, checking after about 8 minutes for browned edges. I needed a full 12 minutes.

Here are some pics:

Mixing up the dough with my handy dandy mixing paddle.

All scooped and ready for baking.

After 12 minutes in the oven.

Now you can stop here or you can add to the amazingness
by adding more chocolate.
I know, that is such a silly question,
OF COURSE
I want to add in more chocolate, duh.

I had some milk chocolate cookie melts on hand.
You can use a chocolate bar as well.

I added about 1/2 cup into a mug and microwaved for 1 minute.
I stopped the microwave every 10 - 15 seconds to stir.

Again, yum.

Take a forkful of chocolate and drizzle it onto the cooled cookies.

These came out so great!

I made them for my grandfather's 85th birthday party and they were a hit.
The family gobbled them up.

Here is a pic of the cookie tray from my phone.

And here is a picture of the birthday boy and all his great grandchildren.

Go out and make these soon!
