Those are some Angry Birds.

So this is what those pesky 1X1 glass tiles have been transformed into

Angry Birds Magnets!

I had originally made these little guys last year for an auction
to benefit a group of
Incredible, Sweet, Supportive, Hot, Funny and Creative moms.
{Go OOF!}

As soon as my little Angry Birds addict saw them, he fell in love.
I promised him I would make him a set of his own.
Better late than never, right?

So a bit of a flashback to my last kiln POST
These little guys were pretty fiesty and I had to start from scratch.

When I finally opened up the big kiln and found perfect little clear tiles,
I was thrilled!

I gathered some pics and created a little Angry Birds printable last year
and picked my favorite feathered friends.
Oh, and some of those mean little pigs, too.

Get your Angry Birds printable page HERE.

So here is my list of materials to create this fun little guys.

Clear Glass Tiles or Blobs
Angry Birds printable
Mod Podge and Brush
Magnets
Strong Glue
Pen and Scissors

First, Take you glass tile and make sure the image fits.

I do this for all my tiles and images.

Trace around each tile with your pen and cut out the shape.
Be sure to cut inside the line.
I also line up my tiles in the same order and set aside.

Grab your first tile and corresponding cut out.
Paint a layer of Mod Podge to the back of the tile

and then place the picture
Face Down on the Mod Podge.

Apply a coat of Mod Podge to the back of the paper
and set aside to dry.
You should apply at least 3 coats, allowing drying time in between.

Once dry, take your magnets and apply some glue to the back.
Center the magnet on the back of the tile and press.
Let Dry.

Notice how I have them spaced out?
If you keep the magnets too close they will pull towards eachother.
(Yes, this is from experience and a mess of glue and magnets everywhere.)

And here is the finished product!

Super cute, functional and
they made my little man giggle.

Ok, they make me giggle, too.  I love them.
Hope you do, too.

XOXO

Fresh out of the kiln - Recycled Bottle Dish

In my last post you saw me fire up my kiln.   I wanted to show you all what came out!

It is always so exciting to open up the kiln 8+ hours later to see what you created.  I feel it's like Christmas morning.

Here we are all done and cooled down to room temperature.   If you were wondering, the kiln went up to 1495 degrees F to slump the bottle.

Taking a peek at my surprises!

Everything came out looking good!  The blanks will need some tweeking, however the bottle is PERFECT!   Glass is a finicky medium and it likes to do whatever it wants.  Which is why opening the kiln is always a surprise.   Here is the final project.

All that is left to do is add the finishing touches (aka BLING).  I move up to my craft room/office for this part.  I love the light in this room.

First add some clear bumpers to the back of the bottle/dish.   These are the ones I normally use (the smaller ones on the side.)

Here that are all placed.  You can even still read the "Luna di Luna" logo on the back of the bottle.

Next up is flipping over the bottle and adding a the bling.  You can emblelish the bottle with lots of things; wire, glass beads, paint.    For this bottle, who a friend asked me to make, I'm adding a dichroic glass cabachon that I also made.   Dichroic glass is so cool, it is extremely sparkly (which I loooove), but it also changes colors.  Here is the cab.

I added it to the neck of the bottle with a bit of E6000 and wait for it to dry.

Last up is adding a cheese knife and ribbon.

Tada!  I normally make these as gifts, and they make great cheese or hors d'oeuvre  plates at parties.   As and added plus, I thoroughly enjoy the first part of making these, drinking the wine. :)

What I'm cooking up...

in the kiln, of course.

If you know us, you know that Jaime does the cooking and is amazing at it.  We gave him a house dress to formaly induct him into cooking greatness.  You know, like he cooks just as good as grandmom.  We also got him matching house slippers. Insert evil giggle here.  For what it's worth, I can cook, I just prefer baking. :)

When it comes to crafting, my first love is glass, so let's take a look at what I'm cooking up...

Here's my baby, my Paragon Glass Kiln (please excuse the messy basement).  I was lucky enough to win this baby in a National Stained Glass Contest (I came in 2nd place).   Shout out to Warner Stained Glass, woot woot.

All prepped and ready for loading

The ingredients; a wine bottle and clear glass blanks.

All set and ready.

OOOh, that is hot. :)

I'll be posting this weekend the results!
