Angry Bird Invasion

Eeeek!
I honestly could not stop laughing when I took this picture.
I even called Jaime over and he laughed, too.
They were just glaring at us.
Ok the birds were glaring and the pigs are kinda scared/clueless. :)

I saw a super cute version of these poms on PINTEREST and knew I wanted
to make them for the Michael's Angry Birds Party.
They would make a perfect addition to the goodie bags.

And then I got my wisdom teeth out.
And then I got really sick from the meds.
Tack on Dry Socket.
I has been a lovely 2 weeks leading up to Michael's 5th birthday
and my party planning (and blog, and face) suffered.

Luckily I was able to work on these little guys in bed and with little head/jaw movement.

I decided on making the red bird and a pig.
If I had felt better, I would have totally made more colored birds.

Below were the supplies:
Yarn
Scissors
Large Needle
Pom Templates in Medium and Large -  Get the template from MEYAMO

For the red bird, I measured 4 lengths of yarn
For the pig, I measured 6 lengths of yarn
(held from my thumb to my chin - 22 inches )
Yes, I'm short.

Fold the length in half and thread the needle.
This will save a ton of time with wrapping the yarn.

Cut out 2 medium templates for the bird and 2 large for the pig.

Grab both templates and begin wrapping around.
You should be able to go around the template twice.

Once it is all wrapped, take your scissors and slip into one side,
and cut along the edge all the way around.

After you cu around, you will be able to see the templates again.
Take another bit of yarn (6 inches) and slide it
between the templates and then tie 2 knots.

Slide out the template and fluff.
Cut any funny looking or stray ends.

Tada!

I then took some green card stock and drew the pig snout and mouth with a sharpie.
Don't forget your googley eyes.
For the bird faces, I found a picture on the internet, sized, printed
and cut out the faces

A few dabs of hot glue and you are all set!

Michael didn't see the finished product until the following morning
and he squealed (pun intended) in delight.
He wanted to keep them all, but I convinced him to share with his friends.
The kids LOVED these.
They are light enough to throw and no one got hurt.

Hope you like them, too!

XOXO,
